DSR EZ program / Re: ez-carbon question

Quote from: eviljunglenoodle on June 15, 2019, 11:05:18 pmHello,
I just wanted to clarify on the dosing amount of EZ-Carbon- on the back of the bottle it states D1, D2,D3 etc., if I read this correctly you increase dosing every day. On the standard DSR I have read that you increase dosing by week, is that just a difference in EZ vs full DSR?
I had been dosing about a couple weeks, only parameters that were a bit off were calcium at 320 and nitrate at 5, phosphate 0 and Alk was 11+ but slowly dropping. I increased calc to 10ml and trace to 5ml to bring up calcium, and carbon I slowly increased to 2.4 per 100ml. after a week or so nitrate stayed at 5 for over a week and I got a bad bacteria bloom, so have done a couple water changes and stopped dosing at the moment.
Should I dose phosphate to attain a reading above zero so that nitrates will drop and go back to starting doses for all dosings(calc/carbon/trace/buffer)?
I can pick up Brightwell Neophos for increasing phosphate, otherwise I need to order from Seaflower being I am in US.
Thanks!
Ramp up dosing daily, until the nitrate start hoing down. Than gradually lower dosing to stabilise nitrate.

Make sure phosphate is always at 0,06-0,1ppm otherwise won't go down even if you ramp up carbon dosing. Supplementing PO4+  will get the job done.

I would prefer the ejet3005, because the ejet1605 is not powerfull enough.

Even beter is to build it yourself with a  tunze 1073.020  pump and a perforated pipe on the intake

I use filterwool

Test kits / Re: Hanna HI736 phosphoreus

Reagent gegevens:

LOT: H036
EXP: 2/2022

DSR Reference:

Batch: ref190102/2204/120
Use before: 2020-05

Groet,

Ronald

Just wanted to post an update to this- Once getting control of some algae issues and balancing nutrients the system is running very well using the EZ method. Carbon is at D5 and supplementing small amounts of PO4 to maintain nutrient levels. Things are cruising along ;)

Hello Glenn

I have a question related to power filters. I know how important you think a good power filter is to the reef.

I have a 200L tank with a sump. I plan to add one of the Tunze E jet in the sump. My question is if more flow is always better when it comes to power filters. Phrasing the question in a different way , buying the Tunze e jet 3005 will produce better results then buying the Tunze E-jet 1605 ?

Also I know you have a Tunze e jet yourself , what refill cartridge do you advise ? https://www.tunze.com/en/details/0870.000-cartridge-870.html or https://www.tunze.com/en/details/0871.000-cartridge-871.html ?

Thanks ,
Mihai
