I will start with a short introduction of myself.
My name is Tom, 30 years old and i live in Schoten near Antwerp city in Belgium.

I work for a company who produces industrial components for piping as key account manager.

My first saltwater aquarium was 3 years ago.
I had a lot of ups and downs but now i think i have a solid base of knowledge to maintain a basic saltwater aquarium.

Now i am at the point i want to go a little further into detail with growing coral.
For that purpose i chose the DRS method.

The tank 330L

120x50X50 => display
80X50X50 => sump

Vertex Omega 150 protein skimmer
Jebao DC 3000 return pump
D&D wervelbedfilter => disconnected now

Jebao WP40 wavemaker
Jebao RW15

Keyled K4 Led fixture support by 2 aqua medic spots of 7 watts on each side.
I want these replaced by T5 again soon

The first measurement on Sunday:

Temp: 24,6°C
PH: 8
NO3: 6                  => started carbon dosing
KH: 7,7                 => raising to 9
CA: 425
MG: 1360
PO4: 0 hanna checker
PO4: 0 Salifert       => disabled reactor and started dosing Fe
Br: 1,5                  => adding up spread over 7 days
Sr: 0                     => adding 1PPM daily, measuring every 8 PPM
I: 0,09
Fe: 0                     => adding Fe but measuring PO4 every 3 days
K: 380

Nice looking thank Tom.
Do you have any issues or concern?

I will advice to use the redsea PO4 test for low range measurements
When you have  fast growing acropora species and very low on PO4, keep KH no higher than 8. This can cause RTN.

I reckon you removed the GFO reactor.

Thank you Glenn!

At this moment no concerns.
I am trying to get my phosphates in check.
Tonight i get the red sea po4 tester delivered.
Hanna reads 0 after 4 days without GFO.
The deviation of the hanna is 0,04 so useless.

I might have to add po4 or stop adding Fe untill my po4 rises.
We will see.

The red sea test reveals 0,04 PO4.
Nothing to worry about i say.

This morning i got my powerfilter up and running!
I had to change the filtercloth anyways.

Measuring round 2 revealed a weird change in nitrates.
Within 1 week it got from 6 to 10.
No change in feeding or anything else.
Is there an explanation for this change?
Further everything is ok i think.

Temp: 25°C
PH: 8
NO3: 10                  => increased carbon dosage according dosing table wk2
KH: 8,9
CA: 420
MG: 1335
PO4: 0,06              => red sea => increased FE from 0,02PPM to 0,04PPM
Br: 3,5                  => added up to 4
Sr: 10                    => previous reading 0 now 10 with only 7PPM added???
I: 0,09
Fe: 0                     => adding Fe but measuring PO4 every 3 days

Just go on with carbon dosing and follow calculators advices.

Hello glenn!

So far al goes well i think. Last week I had an no3 reading of 4 with an older test but still withing expiry date.

Because it was nearly empty I bought a new one and measured no3 of 10 maybe even 12!!!

I noticed yesterday my po4 dropped to 0,02 so i reduced the fe dosing.

I am still building up the carbon, now 8 ml to 330L daily.

I did not change feeding or anything else. Lucky the corals don't seem to bother yet. I know i need to reduce thes nitrates quickly!

Oh yes i feed daily 1 cube of frozen artemia or mysys and add some green dry food ocean nutrition formula 2 flakes, but only a little. Every 2 days i give them a small part of nori 5 square cm.

keep your PO4 between 0,04 and 0,06.
Avoid lower than 0,02 especially when you want to lower nitrate.

How long has the keyled been on your tank and why do you want to replace it for T5 again ?

greetings, GlennF

tomdm1984

Glenn,

The keyleds at least this fixture k5 is on there for a year. I bought it for my previous tank. On this tank it runs from te beginning.

Why i would like to change is becausr this fixture is 80cm and my tank is 120. I have some aqua medic spots to reduce dark spots on each side.

Since i am thinkin of purchasing a larger fixture i would like to go with T5 to compare.

The only concern i have is heat because i don't have a cooler.

How was the color and growth performance of the keyled  compared to T5 with acropora species ?

greetings, GlennF

tomdm1984

I don't know yet! Still working with keyled now. That is why i want to change and try out!
