Hi Glenn, sorry if this question seems silly, I have your DSR products from Seaflower and although I have them all, I am wondering if I need to be dosing V/S as a carbon source for food and bacteria reasons as I have very low NO3 and PO4 and I am dosing NO3 mix to bring up to correct levels? Shoulkd I be dosing both mixes that increase NO3 as well as reduce it?

Anyone?

Hey Kieran.
Yes it is best to keep a maintenance dose of carbon vs as a food source for your bacteria and sponges. As a result of this your nitrate has the tendency to decrease. Therefore it is important to dose nitrate up to the desired level. Should you stop dosing carbon vs, the amount of bacteria will decrease and your nitrate reducing capicity will decrease. In case of something dying in the aquarium it is desirable to have a healthy bacteria population that can deal with this. Plus the carbon vs also count as of food source for various sponges in your aquarium. Hope this answers your question

Many thanks Dennis, much appreciated. I will start with a small dose per day and raise the Nitrate dosing also and try to get a balance between the two over the coming weeks. I have a new doing station arriving soon, so hopefully it will make it that bit easier.

CarbonVS
- Nitrate Remover.
Target: 0,5-2,5ppm

ENG:
Lower nitrate by gradually increase daily dose daily with 120% steps up to maximum dose is reached. Reduce daily dose when water get blurred or nitrate is lower than 0,5ppm.
Dosing min/max: 0,5-5ml/100l
Start dosing: 0,5g/100l per day

NL:

If I am switching from Red Sea NoPoX to Carbon VS and currently dosing 2ml / 100l in my tank for a nitrate reading of 5 then what dose should I start Carbon VS with?

griff500

The CarbonVS has worked well.

It seems that it works at around double the dosing of NoPoX. Recommended NoPoX dosing is 3ml per 100l of tank water for nitrate above 10, 2ml per 100l for nitrate at 2.5 to 10 and 1ml per 100l for nitrate below 2.5. I've been dosing double that using CarbonVS as the maximum dose recommended on the calculator was 18ml - double the NoPoX dose and it has worked very well.

Just in case that's useful to anyone.
